  • What are practice times?
Individual coaches determine when their practice times will occur. Recreation team practices are usually an hour long on two evenings per week; either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. A benefit of being a volunteer coach is the ability to select a practice that works for their family and work life. Please respect that coaches are volunteers giving up their time to teach the team the game of soccer. Practices are scheduled for 5:30-6:30pm or 6:30-7:30pm.
  • How can I help?
Our club is run exclusively by volunteers. In order to have a successful soccer season and to keep our registration prices as low as possible, we ask each family to volunteer in some way to help us. We are always in need of volunteers. We typically have over 500 registered players - to create teams for all of those players we need coaches and assistant coaches for all levels. We need people for field maintenance; this primarily involves lining the fields; an hour of your time during your child's practice to line your field in preparation for the weekend games be a great help! If you're not sure what to do, that's not a problem. We can team you up with someone who has experience. Just ask. The more people who volunteer the easier the tasks are for everyone. We can always use volunteers to be a Site Director on Saturday during the games. You can choose a 1/2 day or Full day depending on your availability. Duties would include placing/removing benches and flags from fields, overseeing games, distributing payment to referees & emptying trash. A list of duties would be provided.
  • Who can play on an RPYSC team?
All area youth are welcome to play on RPYSC recreation level teams and tryout for RPYSC select teams. Our name reflects our geographical location and follows a precedent set by many area soccer clubs. However we are a volunteer run organization independant of the Reeths-Puffer School District. Although many players attend Reeths-Puffer schools simply because of our location, we have a significant number of players from surrounding areas. We are one of the largest youth soccer clubs on the lakeshore with outstanding field space for team practice and games.
  • What is a select or travel team?
Select (or travel) soccer is an opportunity for recreational soccer players to continue the growth of their soccer skills in an increasingly competitive environment while still placing an emphasis on development. As the name implies, players are selected annually for teams based on the abilities they demonstrate in structured try-outs. Try-outs are scheduled in June for teams expecting to start play in the fall. All players try-out every year regardless of whether they have played on a select team before. Select teams typically travel farther than recreation level teams. The GVSA league area is larger than the GLCSL area. Select teams are also likely to register for one or more tournaments which may require travel outside of our normal playing area (possibly requiring overnight stays). A commitment to a select team is for a full year (fall and spring). Select teams normally expect a greater committment to practices - starting earlier before the season starts and often scheduled more frequently. This is necessary to be competitive and grow the higher levels of soccer skills needed for the select program league. Select teams stay together over the winter break and often continue practice or participate in indoor leagues together.
